Welcome to the Future of Personal Finance
At Trezor.io/Start®, you're beginning your journey into safe and private cryptocurrency storage. Whether you're new to crypto or transitioning from software wallets, your Trezor device provides military-grade security for your digital assets.
This guide walks you through every step of starting your Trezor account — setting up your device, securing your backup, and preparing your first transaction. Let's begin.
Step 1: Access the Official Setup Portal
To begin, open your preferred browser and go to: https://trezor.io/start
Trezor.io/start is the only verified portal to download the official Trezor Suite and receive trusted instructions. Avoid third-party links or search results that may lead to phishing sites.
Step 2: Download and Install Trezor Suite
Trezor Suite is the official desktop application for managing your Trezor account. It's available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Download from the portal
- Follow on-screen instructions to install
- Launch the app and connect your device
Once connected, Trezor Suite will detect your device and guide you through the next steps.
Step 3: Create or Restore Your Trezor Account
Starting Fresh?
Select "Create new wallet" to initialize your Trezor device. This creates a new, unique recovery seed that is the backup to your account.
Already Have a Seed?
If you're restoring a wallet, choose "Recover wallet" and enter your 12, 18, or 24-word seed phrase using the device's secure input.
Step 4: Back Up Your Recovery Seed
Your recovery seed is a randomly generated list of words — the only way to restore access to your crypto if your device is lost or stolen.
- Write it on the provided recovery card
- Never take a photo or store it digitally
- Keep the card in a secure location (like a fireproof safe)
Step 5: Add Security Layers – PIN & Optional Passphrase
Choose a secure PIN code to protect access to your Trezor device. If someone steals the device, the PIN prevents them from using it.
You can also enable an advanced security feature: a passphrase. This acts like a 25th word, creating a hidden wallet only you can access — even if someone else gets your seed.
Step 6: Install the Latest Firmware
After setting up your account, you may be prompted to install the latest firmware. Firmware updates include bug fixes, new features, and critical security patches.
Simply follow the on-screen steps in Trezor Suite. Never disconnect during the update.
Step 7: Add Coins and Receive Crypto
Once your account is set up, it's time to receive cryptocurrency. Trezor supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, and hundreds of other coins and tokens.
- Select a coin from your Trezor dashboard
- Click Receive to generate a wallet address
- Copy the address and use it to send funds from an exchange or another wallet
Step 8: Sending Funds from Your Trezor Account
To send funds, select the coin, enter the recipient’s address, amount, and set transaction fees. Confirm the transaction both on-screen and on your physical Trezor device.
Trezor's physical confirmation helps prevent remote malware or hidden software from initiating transactions without your knowledge.
Best Practices for Long-Term Safety
- Test a small transfer before moving large funds
- Keep Trezor firmware and Suite updated regularly
